[SENPE] Round Table on AI for Science and AI4Health (Sp)

SENPE Workshop โ€“ AI for Science and AI4Health

Abstract

This round table discussed how artificial intelligence is transforming scientific discovery and health research, from data-driven biomedical modeling and clinical decision-support systems to the use of generative AI in research workflows. The session addressed opportunities for accelerating knowledge generation and improving health-related decision making, while also considering risks related to bias, evaluation, reproducibility, data quality, privacy, and governance.

I participated in a round table on AI for Science and AI4Health at the SENPE Workshop in Pamplona, focused on the opportunities and risks of applying artificial intelligence to scientific and health-related domains.

The discussion addressed:

  • ๐Ÿงฌ AI for scientific discovery: how machine learning and generative AI can support hypothesis generation, literature exploration, data analysis, and biomedical research.
  • ๐Ÿฅ AI4Health applications: clinical decision support, patient stratification, risk prediction, and personalized interventions.
  • ๐Ÿงช Scientific reliability: reproducibility, validation, uncertainty, evaluation protocols, and the limits of benchmark-driven progress.
  • โš–๏ธ Responsible and trustworthy AI: bias, privacy, data governance, transparency, and human oversight in health-related AI systems.
  • ๐Ÿค Interdisciplinary deployment: the need for collaboration between clinicians, researchers, data scientists, institutions, and regulators.

The round table emphasized that AI can become a powerful tool for science and healthcare only when its deployment is grounded in rigorous validation, domain expertise, and responsible governance.
