ELLIS for High Schools – Risks of AI Systems Beyond LLMsThis outreach talk introduced high-school students to artificial intelligence and scientific research, with a focus on the risks of AI systems beyond large language models. The session discussed how AI is used in many high-impact domains, including decision-making systems, recommendation algorithms, computer vision, and predictive models. It addressed risks such as algorithmic bias, discrimination, opacity, privacy, automation errors, and the importance of developing AI systems that are ethical, responsible, and oriented toward social good.
I participated in the IV Jornada de Divulgación Para el Fomento de Vocaciones Científicas, organized by ELLIS Alicante at the University of Alicante, an outreach event aimed at students from secondary school, high school, and vocational training programs.
My talk, “Risks of AI Systems Beyond LLMs”, introduced students to the fact that artificial intelligence is much broader than chatbots and large language models. The session focused on how AI systems are increasingly used in consequential domains and why understanding their risks is essential.
The talk covered:
The session formed part of a broader event designed to inspire scientific and technological vocations and to help students understand AI from an ethical, responsible, and socially beneficial perspective.
